Jazzy Cello with LL Cool Jazz

For your info, LL Cool Jazz is Scott Leishman on guitar and Anne-Lise Larsen (that’s me) on vocals. The name comes from the two x Ls from our surnames, and we play… cool jazz. πŸ™‚

Well, this afternoon we were supposed to be rehearsing – our last rehearsal – for our forthcoming LL Cool Jazz vocal and guitar recording, you know, kind of in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass. A bit of spontaneity hit me just before heading out to rehearse with Mr Leishman, and I sent him a text saying “I’m bringing my cello”.

What? You didn’t know I play cello? Well, THIS, is what happened. My first time trying the cello with Scott and I LOVED it. Click below to listen to “It Had To Be You” with me, Anne-Lise Larsen playing cello and Scott Leishman on his Gilet Resonator guitar. Totally impromptu. Unexpected, improvised, and I have to say, I think it’s gorgeous with tons of potential.

Β The LL Cool Jazz Vocal/Guitar Recording Buzz

Well, while I didn’t technically sing a note in rehearsal this afternoon, we did make quite a number of exciting plans and ideas see the light of day. We have a fabulous event organiser who is throwing herself wholeheartedly into putting on a celebratory night for LL Cool Jazz at Alpha Gallery in Newtown. There’ll be wine, live jazz from us…I’m sure there’ll be other stuff too, possibly even special guests, but that’s pretty good already isn’t it? Don’t you think? πŸ™‚ This jazzy event will be sometime in November-ish 2014. Date to be announced soon. A teeny cover charge of $5 on the door will give you access to all the LL Cool Jazz you can handle and heavily discounted alcohol and nibblies. Won’t be quite Great Gatsby style, but at least the music will be reminiscent. I will let you know as soon as we have a date. Would love to see you there. Hope you can make it. Hope a plane! You know you want to. πŸ™‚

As far as getting into the studio to record this thing, we have a little bit of tweaking to do on our one and only original for the album. One original only? Oh, the idea behind this recording really is to feature our duo, with songs that are accessible, well known and loved. The rest; the jazz standards are ready and raring to go.

So far, we have a ten track list. Songs will include “It Had To Be You”, “Body and Soul”, “You Go To My Head” …but I don’t want to give it all away just yet. Most of the songs we’ve picked are songs we both love and our hope is that they will appeal to a broad audience of jazz lovers right across to the occasional dabbler.

The plan is to go into the studio and record the whole lot live. High risk, but very rewarding. πŸ™‚

Well, that’s it for now. Will be in touch again soon with details about the LL-Cool-Jazz-Apalooza at Alpha Gallery in Newtown, in Sydney, in November.

Enjoy your week. πŸ™‚
