What a great Sunday I had! In the morning I was invited by Amanda Easton to be a part of the film clip shoot for her new song “New Bohmemians”. What a great song, a great idea and great vibe/feel. Amanda invited about 12 indie artists to be a part of her clip, to celebrate our individual talents and unique creative abilities.
According to Wikipedia, Bohemianism is the practice of an unconventional lifestyle, often in the company of like-minded people, with few permanent ties, involving musical, artistic, or literary pursuits.
Bohemia to me is a state of mind, body and spirit, alternate to the general 9-5 outlook on life. I feel I don’t fit in to the mass, and I guess I don’t mind either because there are a few spirits out there who feel it too. I guess if you’re here, you might be one of them as well. 🙂
Amanda’s song is a celebration of being yourself, living the authentic life that you want, whatever that may be.
PS. In keeping with my bohemian lifestyle, I made my outfit. I needed something I could play the cello in while still being stylish. Ummm, impossible to find in a shop, and all my cello playing clothes are either very formal or black. The skirt is Vogue pattern V8908 and the top is based on New Look pattern 6097. I added a drafted semi-circle peplum to the dress pattern to make it a top, and drafted some bell sleeves. Fabric is from Pitt Trading and the gorgeous lace trim was a major find for a couple of dollars at ReverseGarbage in Marrickville.
Mama Mia! What’s The Industry Got To Do With It?
Amanda’s celebration of Bohemia ties in with an article by Mia Freedman about How the Music Industry Uses the Women in It , which I just commented on MamaMia this morning. What do you think? Comment below or over there on MamaMia.
LL Cool Jazz in the Afternoon
Later in the afternoon, I had a fantastic rehearsal with Scott Leishman. We’re beginning recording our jazz standards and a couple of originals album next Tuesday! Gosh, I’ve been thinking about this with Scott for two years now, and it’s hard to believe the day will soon be here. Of course, the idea of doing a jazz standards album has been long held, probably for more like 30 years! Thank goodness I’m still alive to see it finally happening. Ha ha!
Seriously, I can’t believe my luck that I’ve found Mr Leishman, one of Australia’s most talented jazz guitarists.
No photos of me below, but I was wearing the above outfit at rehearsal while Scott was in his shorts and thongs (flip flops)! Ha ha!
